With a little under a week to go until the domestic season gets underway, we will have a look at some of the specials available from all leagues and will also take a look at a selected conference team, which we will be following this season as part of our new features for the season.

Looking firstly at Woking football club in the conference. We have chosen to follow them all season, as we were regulars at the kingfield up to a couple of seasons ago where other priorities took precedence.

We are committing ourselves to attend games throughout the season and will be looking forward to sampling their home brew, Cardinals Lager. The beer itself is worth a visit to the ground and is brewed over towards Horsham in West Sussex.

Woking enjoyed a first season back in the Conference premier after relegation three seasons before. Woking had been in this league for several seasons, and historically have come close a couple of times in gaining promotion to the football league. Their manager Garry Hill enjoyed a respectful 12th position last season winning 18, drawing 8 and being defeated on 20 occasions. with a capacity of just over 6,000 they always warmly welcome visitors to their ground in a fan friendly environment.

With ever familiar names in their squad, they could well be a team to keep an eye on next season. BetVictor have them priced up at 2/1 to finish in the top half, which is a price we will take on. the league is usually tight throughout with a spread of points remaining narrow, and a couple of successive wins being able to yield temporary dividends in the short term.

Veteran player Kevin Betsy still remains as one of Woking’s highest sold players selling to Fulham back in 1998 for a record breaking £150,000. He has since returned to the club, where he gives the benefit of his experience with his veteran qualities to the remainder of the team.

Woking beat Gillingham 3-0 in a pre-season friendly yesterday and will be motivated to start on a winning note. Keep an eye out on Sole for his free kicks and also Woking’s ability to score in the first half. There is no reason why they are 5/4 for the opener, other than it being the first game of the season and are just 11/10 in other places.

Looking at the other selected specials and one of the bets of the weekend have to be with Spurs and Chelsea beating promoted Palace and Hull. This is 6/5 and a tempting double. Looking at the total goals to be conceded by Palace, Hull and Cardiff on the opening weekend, has Stan James pricing this up:

5< 13/10

6 or 7 – 2/1

8 or more – 21/10

One of these three teams may take a loss at more that a couple of goals, which makes the 5 or less skinny in our opinion. Cardiff are playing West Ham in a game, where West Ham pocketed the majority of their points last season at home. You will expect them to at least score. Our advice would be to oppose 5 or less and back both 6 or 7 at 2/1 and also the 21/10 as the saver on 8 or more.

Sunday bets:

  • Viking & Stromsgodset in Norway Superliga to win – 2.00 Bet365 (Majority of Norwegian games see home wins, and expect both to romp home comfortably
  • Brann/Rosenborg (Norway) both to score and Helsingborg win or draw in Sweden pays 6/5 at Betway
  • Durham to win in Englsh T20 Cricket and Fognini to win at ATP Umag pays 6/4 at BetVictor
  • Adrian Lewis +4.5 Legs Versus Phil Taylor in the matchplay darts final – 4/5 Stan James
